Esta semana ha cumplido años, no se sabe cuantos ya que hay dudas en la fecha de su nacimiento, el quizás más grande músico de la historia de los años 60 y 70, el gran Phil Spector.
Harvey Philip Spector que así se llamó al nacer, es un músico y productor estadounidense, conocido por su técnica de orquestación, el «muro de sonido» (wall of sound), consistente en grabar múltiples pistas de acompañamiento, superponiéndolas hasta crear un sonido compacto y único.
Phil comenzó su carrera musical como integrante de los Teddy Bears. En 1958 una canción suya tuvo un gran éxito «To know him is to love him».
Pasándose poco después a la producción musical, especializándose en grupos femeninos como The Crystals («Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)» y The Ronettes «Be My Baby».
Algunas de las canciones mas famosas de los años 60 como «You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin» de los Righteous Brothers, y «River Deep, Mountain High», de Ike y Tina Turner fueron de su propia cosecha.
En 1970 John Lennon le pide en 1970 que ayude a The Beatles en la publicación del “Let it be”.
Durante la decada de los setenta produce para artistas como John Lennon, Leonard Cohen, George Harrison y los Ramones.
Hoy en día, Phil Spector, está cumpliendo condena de 19 años por homicidio en segundo grado el 13 de abril de 2009.
